Information and Overview
Arrowhead is a unique community in many ways. Because of our isolation from conveniences and services, we have to rely on our own infrastructure. This is one of the main reasons we have formed such a tight knit group of people. The fire department is no exception. Most of the people on the mountain support the fire department through community volunteerism or direct donations. Throughout the years, the fire department has evolved from a small department, concentrating training efforts on fires, to a department of several groups which train on a regular basis.
As we are a volunteer organization, we are always looking for new volunteers. Please contact Fire Chief Jennifer Bonner at avfdchief2023@gmail.com to explore how you can contribute. Come join us at our AVFD monthly business auxiliary meetings which are held the 1st Tuesday of every month at 10:00AM. The Arrowhead Fire Protection District meetings are also open to the public.
Firefighters, First Responders and Search & Rescue
The firefighters train for structural as well as wildland fires. Our medical first responders are first on the scene for all medical emergencies. In the winter, Search & Rescue coordinates the more skillful snowmobile riders to search more difficult terrain. In both summer and winter we use searchers who have a good knowledge of backcountry skills, as well as a strong familiarity with the local area itself.
Arrowhead Fire Department Logistics
Logistics operates out of the firehouse during an incident. The team provides base support as well as radio communications and incident documentation. Logistics coordinates and arranges traffic control, landing zone requirements for emergency airlifts, and fulfills field requests for equipment, materials, and radios. Logistics works hand-in-hand with the Auxiliary and the First Responders to ensure incident personnel injuries are supported and all other personnel needs are met.
Arrowhead Fire Department Maintenance Crew
Maintaining the firehouse, medical equipment and firefighting equipment is a group effort. Firehouse repairs, fire hydrant maintenance and testing, and annual pressure testing of all hoses are just a few of the tasks. This doesn’t include the general fleet vehicle maintenance required for four trucks, multiple pumps and foam dispensing equipment, snowmobiles and the snow cat.
